Santa Baby Hat

We're getting in the mood for the holidays around here and to kick the season off, I made Little S her very own Santa hat.  Since I was writing everything down anyway, I figured I would share it.  We'll be using this one for a lot of photos over the next few months.  Best of all, she loves it and gets so excited when she sees it.  I love this stage!

This is my first real attempt at writing a pattern, so comments are appreciated!

And mittens to match

Well, I couldn't stop there.  Little S had to have mittens to match her new hat, so I used the pattern for Bold Banded Mittens, but didn't do the stripes so it would look more like the hat.  I joined the mittens with a braided length of yarn so Little S doesn't lose her mittens this winter!

It's starting to get colder

Finally... there's a crisp breeze outside and the leaves are changing colors.  I wait for this time of year all year long!  This winter will be the first for Little S, so I had to make sure she'll stay warm throughout winter.  Not just any old hat would do though.  I wanted one that would stay on her little head and looked cute on top of it.  Voila!  An earflap hat pattern with cabling details.

The pattern is Cabled Hat with Earflaps by Zoe Mellor published in her book Adorable Knits for Tots: 25 Stylish Designs for Babies and Toddlers.

Now I just hope it continues to get colder so Little S can get some good use out of it before she outgrows it!

New Beginnings

A year ago, I made a decision to re-invent myself.  I left my engineering job, knowing that it might be my last "9-5" job ever.  We decided to start a family and I made a decision to focus on family, not on a career.  That left me searching for my roots in all things handmade.  My sewing skills came from my mother.  My knitting skills from my grandmother, aka Grosi.  In May, our little girl came along and became my inspiration to pass on the skills that were passed on to me.  This is my chronicle of that adventure...
